To the fashion obsessed, designer purses are as essential to an outfit as a pair of shoes or a shirt. Designer purses do much more than store wallets, keys, and lip gloss - they are the defining accessory to otherwise incomplete outfits. Designers from across Europe and even the US constantly release new, innovative designs for their designer purses. Coach, Prada, Gucci and Fendi are only a few amongst a wide range of designers who have taken it upon themselves to consistently introduce bold, chic purses to the fashion industry.

Coach is perhaps the most popular designer label amongst the market for designer purses. It is also one of the few labels designed in the United States. Since its debut over 100 years ago as a leather goods company, Coach has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of designer purses. Their signature purses include an array of neutral colored logo print bags and leather bags.

Over time, designer purses from Coach have adopted more daring colors and design patterns. A few years ago their more colorful scribble line offered something a bit bolder. The new line of Hamptons bags from Coach includes purses complete with the highest quality leather, different colored logo patterns, and new non-logo patterns including a classic plaid.

Designer purses by Italian born Prada are so popular that they are the most replicated designer purses. Prada's designer purses have a reputation for sleek black designs. Prada's fall line of designer purses includes a number of edgy patent leather handbags in red and black. Patent leather is one of this seasons hottest materials.

Gucci, another Italian bred designer, has supplied fashionable bags for style seekers since 1906. The new Indy bag from Gucci – presently featured in a fold out advertisement spread in Vogue – is a small line of designer purses that are bold and big – comparable in size to the Fendi spy bag. The Gucci Indy bag is available in solid, neutral leather, Gucci logo suede and metallic snakeskin that keeps in line with this seasons hottest trends.

Chanel, a Paris based designer label by Coco Chanel, is another that has established a distinct, signature style for its designer purses. Signature purses by Chanel, recently made popular again by star of The O.C., Mischa Barton, are characterized by a classic quilted pattern, solid colors, and a chain link handle.

Burberry, a London based design label, is most popular for its classic red, beige, black and white plaid patterned designer purses. While Burberry, in response to pressure for new designs, has introduced variations of plaid and solid color purses, they have chosen to remain with their timeless color palette. The new patent beaton bag is a deep red patent leather with quilting and buckle detail.

Another popular purse designer is French designer Louis Vuitton. Another fashion classic, Louis Vuitton has made a name for itself with signature logo designs. Experiencing the competitive nature of the fashion industry, Louis Vuitton has taken it upon itself to design and market fresh takes on the traditional LV logo purses. Recent design innovations from Louis Vuitton include the multicolor monogram collection and the Antigua line that includes a $565 navy striped tote.

There is no question that the latest designer purses may leave a small hole in the latest designer wallets. However, when it comes to fashion, there is no price tag that is not worth the intricate and elaborate work that goes into creation of designer purses, clothing, shoes, and accessories. Only the finest materials and craftsmanship are used to engineer these fashion masterpieces. Designer purses are notorious fashion fetishes. Thanks to the finest and most talented designers in the world, they continue to pleasantly surprise and feed fashion addictions of all levels.
